Did I miss something? Is this a special event?

No, it's how the Sprint Cup finishes mate, it tracks the same method as real NASCAR. The scoring is a little complex (putting it politely) but suffice to say a win from one of the three races each round is automatic progression to the next. The people with the fewest points* are eliminated until there are 4 left for the final race. The winner from the 4 people wins the Cup.

The Playoff rounds start on 5th September.

*Points are also reset for the Playoffs but a bonus for each race win during the regular season is added to your score at the start.

Also strictly speaking you are meant to have completed at least 50% of ALL the races this year to qualify but as you started playing NRL at race 10 and have still done nearly half anyway it's all good.

I'll try to finish a full season next year, but I'm still so busy that I can't even get myself to playing TM at all. If I play, it's mostly csgo with friends for an hour or two.

It's a shame that I missed so much of the beginning of this season and now this stupid 2 months...

Obviously there is no automatic slot left now but don't panic!

Next week is another chance to secure a position in the round of 12 so good luck to all Chasers.

All you need to do to progress is stay in the top 12 Sprint Cup Leader Board positions.

If you drop out of the top 12 after next week's race, don't be a stranger! You are more than welcome to drive for fun still
