O&O ShutUp 10 is a 100% free (with no adverts or popups) highly configurable program that disables telemetry and privacy compromising settings in Windows 10 and now 11 too by altering registry settings*. They have changed the name and interface slightly in the new version to reflect this, so it's now called O&O ShutUp10++
*It prompts you to take a System Restore Image but also has a Restore Defaults button in the program along with preset profiles to use
That's neat, I use it myself on Win10 but as I said in the game chat already, I think I'll wait a few months just to be on the safe side.
Nobody's forcing you to leave Win10 until 2025, so a couple more months can't hurt.
Quite apart from the AMD processor issue that's been discovered, I won't be upgrading any time soon either if at all:

I didn't know about that, thanks.
Enabled in the bios, rebooted and got a overheating warning on rebooting. Turned it back off.
Really? That's bizarre, what processor and motherboard do you have? Also which BIOS build because that shouldn't happen

ROG STRIX H370-I GAMING and I've never updated the bios
That may be why then. Even if you never use W11, there are Intel Management Engine updates for the board that address vulnerabilities that can be activated remotely via the internet. So really while normally you should leave well alone if the system is operating okay, in this instance I would recommend applying the latest BIOS update and the latest available Intel ME Driver which is a prerequisite for this BIOS. The latest non-beta BIOS update will turn on TPM but you can always turn TPM off again if the overheat continues.

Buh ! I think I'll try to install win10 on my computerausorus...
I'll check if it's needed... the win7 is starting to be really obsolete :'(
But if I'm not wrong, UEFI is needed ? Buhhh ! My motherboard don't know this kind of animal

You can most definitely install W10 on a machine with legacy BIOS bro. Do an in-place upgrade from W7 first to get it free bro, it still works. Afterwards you may want to clean install though which you do by skipping the entry of the activation code in future.
https://www.howtogeek.com/509087/how-to-upgrade-from-windows-7-to-window...
Use Rufus to write the USB stick if you don't have a DVD to burn, be sure to select MBR mode in Rufus - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lrmZo_jXLA
W7 SP1 is way beyond obsolete, it's not received any security patches since January 2020. All third-party applications that continued support temporarily are also ceasing now.
If you can't get W10 to install, the other option is Linux which you already know your way around. Apparently according to Linuxman TM2 runs fine on it, presumably via Steam Proton and so does TMUF via WINE/Steam Proton.

Thx for the links bro
The previous USB key was formatted for UEFI... that's why I had this message
and was thinking win10 is only for UEFI... It's now formatting as MBR
I'll try on a spare disk to check if everything is fine with this old hardware. My current win7 is "running fine" with all the stuff, so I don't want to break everything with a (may be) failed upgrade.
A friend has quickly shown to me Steam Proton. He has an older videocard than me, previous AMD/ATI card... and said it's usually OK with some games, so why not with TM2 !! It can be funny to try
Manjaro has this package if I'm not wrong... it's will be an excuse to drink something with him, to show me how it's working, if my win10 is not successful

I've only tried Steam Proton with Half Life 2 which of course is Valve's own game so worked flawlessly.
One thing to note is that Proton or WINE will sometimes be much harder on resources than in Windows so you'll notice a drop in FPS on more demanding AAA games. That said, TMUF and TM2 aren't too resource hungry so should be okay.
The spare drive for the hardware test is a good plan, good luck with that.
Potential stumbling blocks are very old wireless adaptors. You can't use W8/8.1 or earlier drivers with W10 network stack because it's been completely re-written and they are no longer compliant. I tried out of interest to see what would happen with an old Intel wireless from a centrino laptop that did not have W10 drivers. With W8 drivers it could see networks but could not join.

Hey Minos do you mind posting the Laptop specs you are trying to run Win10 on?
Hehe!! It looks like ok, all drivers are set up, it's running
I have to try performance soon.
My desktop :

Phenom II X4 Black Edition, yes, I love that line.
You can push those so hard to the limit and they are not even sweating.
But your PC should be more than capable of running Win10, it might not be the most responsive system, but it will still run just fine.
Agree, it looks like ok now. There's only some minimal stuff set up, nothing really wrong. I've managed with last sound Realtek drivers, 2.82 bugged, 2.81 version is ok... Hard to find on official website
Antivirus not yet added...
I see the HDD light always blinking... What Bill is trying to do ? Scanning each files 50 times ? I've to find the overzealous services ! (search, indexing...)
So yes, may be there will have a new (may be "clean") install over my win7 when I'll be courageous

I would turn off scheduled optimisation of the SSD and run it yourself once a month or so to TRIM the drive. If you install Crucial Management Executive do not turn on the Momentum Cache unless you want micro-stutters in TM2 and other games too.
For Malware protection Windows Defender for W10 is perfectly adequate these days (turn off the new ransomware protection while installing any trusted games) and if you turn it back on you will need to set up exceptions for them to be able to save profile changes or cached items, etc. to your Documents folders.
Regarding the Realtek Audio driver, try the one Gigabyte suggest for mine 4.31 which is also Realtek HD Audio Codec:
https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Driver/mb_driver_audio_realtek_w1...
If you don't in-place upgrade from W7 first, you will definitely end up having to pay for a W10 license activation. You can always clean install it again after doing that.

The HDD blinking could be due to the indexing of the drive, that is needed in order for the Windows Search to do its job, and it's doing a fucking horrible job at it. It should calm down though after a few hours/days of use.
I've given up the Windows Search along with its indexing quite some time ago and switched over to a third-party searching app that actually indexes your system and is able to search through your whole system (the filestructure that is) in less than a blink of an eye.
Regardless of that, it's quite common for a system to run super super slow after a fresh install of Windows 10 because the OS needs to setup all these different stuff (update etc.).
Once you have taken your time to get rid of most of the telemetry and background services, it is actually just as fast as Windows 7.
Ok mates, thx for the tips !
The audio driver is not given by Gigabyte for my MB, it's too old
I'll check on my win7 about the Crucial Management buuuh! if it's enabled... may be it's not helping today...
Now, I need to backup everything, then try to find free time to set up this win10 on the SSD
(this time... oops! lol). But if I'm not wrong, and if I remember well, the OEM key will expire on the next new computer ?
or hardware replace ? Humm... not so heavy to buy...
I've seen win10 pro (OEM) keys near 7.35€
https://www.comptoir-hardware.com/bons-plans-du-comptoir/40329-promopub-...
I'll read about it, then will come back with a cool key

Yop, slowly migrating to win10, I've made a new fresh install on SSD some days ago
This f****g win10 has uninstalled the ATI drivers (video card), and installed the Windows Update drivers...... result is a Default Microsoft Video with a 3D boost like Hell !
HAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
No way to launch the game... tried to re-install the game over the previous, Maniaplanet too... no way to launch the game ! And when I saw this mess made by win10...
And now, with ATI drivers, it's ok, haha !!!
(because install is automatic !!! haaaa! I want to be the master of this bloody machine !! but sadly, it's not the way taken by Microsoft
)
Next time, it will be the first thing I'll verify... Never seen that before this windows version
O&O shutup added, thx Anti for this tip

You can disable windows update drivers for specific devices in the device manager I think. I always install drivers from the vendor page because the windows update ones are ancient.
I did a clean install today on my gaming machine. Yes you can turn off automatic driver updates but not through Device Manager.
Long winded method - Press WIN+Pause/Break keys together and then click on Advanced System Settings which opens the W7 style System Properties. Click on the Hardware Tab of System Properties. Then Click Device Installation Settings and select No. Then click Save Changes. A UAC prompt will appear for confirmation.
Shorter method - Use ShutUp10++ which contains a toggle to do the same.

I’ll try ASAP
But sadly, I've left home yesterday with the GPU unplugged... There were little squares appeared on the screen when gaming, then screen black... No way to boot it up
With the motherboard's IGP, it's ok...
2nd test with the GPU, black screen...
I'll test a new time when i'll back at home, but I think you will see a new message in the "absence" topic
A friend can give me a spare old GPU, may be.
Bad moment for buying a video card

Indeed, sad news and frustrating timing.
Decent cards are stupidly expensive at present. Although if I were replacing my GTX 1080ti I wouldn't need to look further than an RTX 3060 or 3060ti (so max £500 which is still a relatively silly amount for a card). That's how far GPU tech has come on in the last few years. Lower power draw, same number of shader/cuda cores, 1GB more RAM and true RTX cores too which mine doesn't have but can virtualise.
The same could be said for AMD hardware too. If you look for similar shader and compute cores to your current card, there are potential bargains out there lower down the range now (if you consider £400-500 a bargain but in 2021 terms it kind of is unfortunately...)

All I have spare at the moment is an ancient PowerColor Radeon HD 6770 which is worse than the integrated R3 graphics in my Linux machine's Athlon 5350 and has a cooler that sounds like a Vulcan Bomber.

Yeah, I have no spare parts lying around either Minos.
I had a 660 Ti and a HD 4870 but these are ancient by todays standards, and would have been available for dirt cheap on used markets anyway.
I have a another friend in need for a GPU and he's keeping an eye out for cheap GPUs on german sites (he lives outside of Germany) so I can relay the purchase to him. If you'd like, and you find a good deal, I could help you out in this way too.
Heee many thx mates for your support

Yep, this is a crazy moment, the prices are crazy, manufacturers are certainly happy to sell 200€ mid-range cards around 350-400€ today
I've to try this card in another PC to be sure...
Thx Alps about possible good deal

It may actually be more prudent and future proof to upgrade your PC with a B550 motherboard, a Ryzen 5 5600G and 16GB DDR4 (2x8GB). 8GB wouldn't work because of the graphics share of 2GB. It would come in around the same cost of one of those GPU.
With the new RSR in AMD's GPU drivers you should get reasonable performance out of it at 1080p on medium settings.
That leaves the option to add a new GPU when prices due to scalping have fallen in about 5 years time...
